Conny Plank

Conny Plank (1940-1987) was a pioneering German producer and sound engineer known for his innovative work in electronic, rock, and avant-garde music. Active primarily in the 1970s and 1980s, Plank played a crucial role in the development of the Krautrock genre, collaborating with influential bands such as Kraftwerk, Neu!, and Harmonia. His experimentation with studio techniques and synthesizers helped shape the sound of modern music. Notable works include his production on Kraftwerk's early albums, notably "Trans-Europe Express" (1977), and his involvement with Neu!’s self-titled debut (1972) and "Neu! 75" (1975). He also worked with artists like Eurythmics and the avant-garde group Can, contributing significantly to their signature sounds. Plank's impact on music extends beyond the artists he worked with; his innovative approach to sound manipulation and his embrace of technology paved the way for future genres such as electronic, post-punk, and ambient music. His legacy continues to influence contemporary musicians and producers, making him a seminal figure in the history of modern music production.
